Targocid 400 mg/vial (IM/IV Injection)

Indications

• Complicated skin and soft tissue infections
• Bone and joint infections
• Hospital-acquired pneumonia
• Community-acquired pneumonia
• Complicated urinary tract infections
• Infective endocarditis
• Clostridium difficile infection-associated diarrhea

Pharmacology

• Glycopeptide-antibiotic produced by Actinoplanes teichomyceticus
• Sterile, pyrogen-free ivory white powder for reconstitution
• Freely soluble in water
• Inhibits the growth of susceptible organisms
• Interferes with cell-wall biosynthesis

Dosage & Administration

• Intravenous and intramuscular administration
• Bolus injection or infusion
• Daily dosage adjustment based on severity of infection and patient's response
• Dosage adjustment for adults, elderly, children, and neonates
• Recommended dose for Clostridium difficile infection associated diarrhea

Interaction

• Caution in patients receiving concurrent nephrotoxic or ototoxic drugs
• Nephrotoxic or ototoxic drugs include Aminoglycosides, Amphotericin B, Cyclosporion, and Frusemide

Contraindications

• Contraindicated in patients with known Hypersensitivity to the drug

Side Effects

• Local reaction: Erythema, injection site abscess
• Allergic reaction: Rash, pruritus, fever, shivering, anaphylactic reactions
• Gastrointestinal reactions: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
• CNS reactions: Physical weakness, dizziness, headache
• Hearing reactions: Ringing in the ears, balance disorders

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy Category B3
• Not recommended during confirmed or presumed pregnancy or during lactation unless benefits outweigh risks

Precautions & Warnings

• Caution in patients known to be hypersensitive to Vancomycin
• Cross-hypersensitivity may occur

Reconstitution

• Reconstitution with water for injection
• Slow injection process
• Use of specific infusion solutions for administration

Storage Conditions

• Store at a temperature not exceeding 30°C
• Store in a dry place
• Protect from light
• Reconstituted solution should be used immediately or refrigerated for 24 hours maximum
