Broad spectrum bactericidal activity against a wide range of gram-positive & gram-negative bacteria and some protozoa

Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to trimethoprim or sulphonamides
- Megaloblastic anaemia due to folate deficiency
- Liver parenchymal damage
- Blood dyscrasia
- Severe renal insufficiency
- Glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency

Pregnancy and lactation
Risk of adverse effects during pregnancy and nursing due to placental transfer and excretion in breast milk
Precautions and warnings
- Risk of macrocytic anaemia
- Possible potentiation of action of sulphonylurea in diabetic patients
- Reversible with Folinic acid if macrocytic anaemia occurs
