Description
- Bactericidal in vitro to a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms
- Broad spectrum bactericidal activity
- Exerts bactericidal action by the sequential blockade of two bacterial enzyme systems
- Passes the placenta and is excreted in breast milk
- Associated with the risk of macrocytic anaemia
- Storage temperature below 30°C
- Keep away from light and moisture

- Respiratory tract infections treatment and prophylaxis
- Genito-urinary tract infections treatment
- Gastro-intestinal tract infections treatment
- Other infections treatment
- Particularly suitable for chronic bronchitis and urinary tract infections
Pharmacology
- Contains Trimethoprim and Sulphamethoxazole in a 1:5 combination
- Bactericidal activity against gram-positive & gram-negative bacteria and some protozoa
- Blocks two bacterial enzyme systems in the biosynthesis of folinic acid
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage for different age groups and severity of infections
- Tablet and suspension forms available
- Specific dosages for mild to severe infections and long-term therapy
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to trimethoprim or sulphonamides
- Megaloblastic anaemia due to folate deficiency
- Marked liver parenchymal damage
- Blood dyscrasia
- Severe renal insufficiency
- Glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency

Pregnancy & Lactation

Precautions & Warnings
- Risk of macrocytic anaemia
- Interference with the conversion of Folic acid into Folinic acid
- Reversal by giving Folinic acid
- Caution when giving to diabetic patients receiving sulphonylurea drug
