Pharmacology

  • Broad spectrum of bactericidal activity
  • Susceptible to degradation by beta-lactamases
  • Inactivation of a wide range of beta-lactamase enzymes

Dosage

  • Recommended dosage for adults
  • Recommended dosage for children over 12 years
  • Recommended dosage for children 6-12 years
  • Recommended dosage for children 1-6 years

  • Usual daily dosage for mild to moderate infections

Administration

  • May be taken without regard to meals
  • Enhanced absorption when administered at the start of a meal
  • Suitable for intravenous administration

Interaction

  • Prolongation of bleeding time and prothrombin time
  • Reduction in efficacy of oral contraceptives
  • Concomitant use of allopurinol

Contraindications

  • History of Penicillin hypersensitivity
  • Possible cross-sensitivity with other beta-lactam antibiotics
