Dosage and Administration

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to trimethoprim or sulphonamides
  • Megaloblastic anaemia due to folate deficiency
  • Liver parenchymal damage
  • Blood dyscrasia
  • Severe renal insufficiency
  • Glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency

Pregnancy and Lactation

  • Excretion in breast milk

Precautions and Warnings

  • Risk of macrocytic anaemia
  • Interference with Folic acid conversion
  • Reversal with Folinic acid
  • Potentiation of sulphonylurea drug action in diabetic patients
