Pharmacology

  • Pharmacodynamic properties: Antibacterial combination of Amoxicillin and Clavulanic Acid
  • Pharmacokinetic properties: Closely matched serum levels of both components

Dosage

  • Adults and children over 12 years:
    • Tablet: one 625 mg Tablet every 12 hours
    • Suspension: Children 6-12 years: 2 teaspoonful every 8 hours
    • Forte suspension: Usual recommended daily dosage: 25/3.6 mg/kg/day
  • Children of 2 to 12 years:
    • Suspension: 25/3.6 mg/kg/day for mild to moderate infections
    • Forte Suspension: 45/6.4 mg/kg/day for serious infections
  • Adults IV Injection: 1.2 gm every 8 hours

Administration

  • Oral dosage form: May be taken without regard to meals
  • IV injection: Not suitable for intramuscular or subcutaneous administration

Interaction

Prolongation of bleeding time and prothrombin time reported in some patients

Contraindications

History of Penicillin hypersensitivity

Pregnancy & Lactation

Not recommended unless considered essential by the physician

Precautions & Warnings

  • Use with care in patients on anticoagulation therapy
  • Dosage adjustment in moderate or severe renal impairment

Use in Special Populations

  • Dose adjustment in case of patients with renal impairment
  • Dose with caution in hepatic impairment

Gastrointestinal symptoms and disturbance of fluid and electrolyte balances
