Indications
- Treatment of single infection or mixed infections
- Broad-spectrum antibacterial activity

Pharmacology
- Synthetic quinolone anti-infective agent
- Broad spectrum of antibacterial activity
- Bactericidal action by interfering with DNA gyrase
- Rapid and well absorption from the G.I. tract
- Widely distributed into body tissues and fluids
- Excretion in urine as unchanged drug and metabolites
Dosage
- Dosage determined by severity and type of infection
- Dosage range for adults: 100-750 mg twice daily
- Different dosages for urinary, respiratory, and other infections
- Specific dosages for cystic fibrosis and impaired renal function
- Duration of treatment based on severity and clinical response
- Recommended dosage for uncomplicated urinary tract infection
Administration
- Instructions for IV infusion administration
- Check for leaks and solution clarity
- Suspend bag from hanger during infusion
- Regulation of administration rate with flow control clamp
Interaction
- Avoid concurrent administration with certain antacids or products containing Calcium, Iron or Zinc
- Avoid milk or other dairy products concurrently
- Effect of dietary calcium on absorption
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ciprofloxacin or other quinolones
Side Effects
- Gastrointestinal and central nervous system disturbances
- Hypersensitivity reactions including skin rash
- Joint pain and transient increase in liver enzymes
- Risk of hypoglycemia and mental health adverse effects
Pregnancy & Lactation
- No evidence of teratogenicity in reproduction studies
- Avoid use during pregnancy due to potential arthropathy
- Not recommended for nursing mothers

- Use with caution in patients with CNS disorders
