Description
- Broad spectrum of activity against most gram negative aerobic bacteria including Enterobacteriaceae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa
- Active against gram-positive aerobic bacteria including penicillinase producing, non penicillinase producing, and methicillin resistant staphylococci
- Bactericidal action results from interference with the enzyme DNA gyrase needed for the synthesis of bacterial DNA
- Available in various dosage forms including oral suspension, tablets, and injection
- Used for the treatment of single infection or mixed infections caused by two or more susceptible organisms
- Can be used for infections resistant to other antibiotics including Aminoglycosides, Penicillins, and Cephalosporins
- Indicated for infections of the urinary, respiratory, and gastrointestinal tracts, gonorrhea, septicaemia, skin and soft tissue infections, and more
- Dosage ranges from 100-750 mg twice daily for adults and 7.5-15 mg/kg/day for children, depending on the severity and type of infection
- Dosage adjustments may be required for patients with impaired renal function
- Storage conditions include keeping the product below 30°C temperature, protected from light and moisture, and out of reach of children
- Contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Ciprofloxacin or other quinolones
- Precautions should be taken in patients with known CNS disorders such as arteriosclerosis or epilepsy
- Not recommended for use in pediatric populations due to arthropathy in immature animals
- Possible side effects include gastrointestinal disturbances, central nervous system disturbances, hypersensitivity reactions, joint pain, photosensitivity, and increase in liver enzymes
- Avoid concurrent administration with magnesium or aluminum containing antacids, sucralfate, or products containing calcium, iron, or zinc
