Indications

  • Treatment of single or mixed infections caused by susceptible organisms
  • Treatment of infections resistant to other antibiotics
  • Treatment of a wide range of infections including urinary, respiratory, and gastrointestinal tracts, gonorrhea, septicaemia, skin and soft tissue infections, gastrointestinal infections, biliary tract infections, bone and joint infections, and pelvic infections.

Pharmacology

  • Synthetic quinolone anti-infective agent
  • Broad spectrum of activity including gram-negative and gram-positive aerobic bacteria
  • Bactericidal action resulting from interference with the enzyme DNA gyrase
  • Rapid and well absorption from the G.I. tract
  • Widely distributed into body tissues and fluids
  • Half-life of about 3.5 hours
  • Excretion of 30-50% in urine within 24 hours as unchanged drug and biologically active metabolites.

Dosage

  • General dosage recommendations based on severity, type of infection, sensitivity of causative organism(s), age, weight, and renal function of the patient

Administration
