Description

Pharmacology
- Bactericidal action results from interference with the enzyme DNA gyrase needed for bacterial DNA synthesis.
- Rapid and well absorption from the GI tract.
- Widely distributed into body tissues and fluids with a half-life of about 3.5 hours.
- Excretion of about 30% to 50% in the urine within 24 hours.
Dosage
- Adults:
- 100-750 mg twice daily for various infections
- Renal function:
- Dosage adjustment may be required for patients with impaired renal function.
- Monitor drug serum levels for reliable basis for dose adjustment.
Interaction
- Avoid concurrent administration with magnesium or aluminum containing antacids, sucralfate, products containing calcium, iron, or zinc.
- Do not take concurrently with milk or dairy products as absorption may be reduced.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ciprofloxacin or other quinolones.
