Indications
- Treatment of single infection or mixed infections caused by susceptible organisms
- Infections resistant to other antibiotics
- Infections of urinary, respiratory, and gastrointestinal tracts
- Gonorrhea and septicaemia
- Intra-abdominal, bone, joint, and skin infections
Pharmacology
- Synthetic quinolone anti-infective agent
- Broad spectrum of activity against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria
- Inhibition of DNA gyrase for bacterial DNA synthesis
- Rapid and well absorption from G.I. tract
- Widely distributed into body tissues and fluids
Dosage
- Adult dosage range: 100-750mg twice daily
- Variations based on infection type and severity
- Dosage adjustment in impaired renal function
- Duration of treatment based on infection severity and clinical response
Administration
- Use of Ciprofloxacin IV infusion
- Instructions for checking bag leaks and suspension
- Regulating rate of administration with flow control clamp
Interaction
- Avoid concurrent administration with certain antacids or dairy products
Contraindications
- History of hypersensitivity to Ciprofloxacin or other quinolones
