Description
- Indicated for single or mixed infections caused by susceptible organisms
- Can be used for infections caused by organisms resistant to other antibiotics
- Effective against gram-negative aerobic bacteria including Pseudomonas aeruginosa
- Active against gram-positive aerobic bacteria including penicillinase producing staphylococci
- Interferes with DNA gyrase for bacterial DNA synthesis
- Rapid and well absorption from the gastrointestinal tract
- Wide distribution into body tissues and fluids
- Excretion in urine within 24 hours
- Dosage range for adults: 100-750 mg twice daily
- Dosage adjustment for impaired renal function
- No dosage adjustment needed for elderly
- Not recommended for use in children and growing adolescents
- Duration of treatment depends on severity of infection
