Indications
- Treatment of single infection or mixed infections caused by multiple susceptible organisms
- Treatment of infections caused by organisms resistant to other antibiotics
- Use in infections of urinary, respiratory, and gastrointestinal tracts
- Treatment of septicaemia, bacteraemia, and peritonitis
- Indicated for infections of skin, soft tissue, gastrointestinal, biliary tract, intra-abdominal, bone, and joint
- Use in pelvic infections, eye, ear, nose, and throat infections
- Treatment of gonorrhoea and related infections
- Indicated for severe systemic infections and respiratory tract infections

Pharmacology
- Synthetic quinolone anti-infective agent
- Broad spectrum activity against gram-negative and gram-positive aerobic bacteria
- Bactericidal action through interference with DNA gyrase enzyme
- Rapid and well absorption from the gastrointestinal tract
- Widely distributed into body tissues and fluids
- Excreted in urine as unchanged drug and biologically active metabolites
Dosage
- Dosage range for adults: 100-750 mg twice daily
- Specific dosages for urinary tract, respiratory tract, and gonorrhoea infections
- Different dosages for cystic fibrosis, impaired renal function, and adolescents
- Dosage duration for acute infections and extended-release tablet recommendations
Administration
- Instructions for Ciprofloxacin IV infusion
- Guidelines for checking the solution, using administration set, and regulating the rate of administration
Interaction
- Avoid concurrent administration with certain antacids and products containing Calcium, Iron, or Zinc
- Instructions regarding the intake of Cipromet with milk or dairy products
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Ciprofloxacin or other quinolones
Side Effects
- Gastrointestinal disturbances, central nervous system disturbances
- Hypersensitivity reactions, joint pain, photosensitivity
- Transient increase in liver enzymes, bilirubin, urea, or creatinine levels
- Risk of hypoglycemia and mental health adverse effects
Pregnancy & Lactation
- No evidence of teratogenicity but not recommended during pregnancy
- Secreted in milk, not recommended for nursing mothers
Precautions & Warnings
- Use with caution in patients with CNS disorders or predisposition to seizures
- Guidelines for intake with meals and fluids
- Instructions for concurrent administration with specific antacids and dairy products
Use in Special Populations
- Effective in clinical trials but not a drug of first choice in pediatric population
Overdose Effects
- Potential effects such as seizures, hallucinations, abdominal discomfort, renal and hepatic impairment
- Possible outcomes of crystalluria, haematuria, and reversible renal toxicity
