Description
- Cipro-S is a synthetic quinolone anti-infective agent with broad spectrum of activity against gram negative aerobic bacteria including Enterobacteriaceae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
- It is used for the treatment of single infection or mixed infections caused by susceptible organisms, including infections of the urinary, respiratory, and gastrointestinal tracts, gonorrhea, and severe systemic infections.
Dosage Range
- 100-750 mg twice daily for adults
- 250-500 mg twice daily for urinary tract infections
- Dosage adjustment for patients with impaired renal function
- 750 mg twice daily for cystic fibrosis in adults

Pharmacology
- Bactericidal action due to interference with the enzyme DNA gyrase
- Rapid and well absorption from the gastrointestinal tract
- Widely distributed into body tissues and fluids
- Half-life of about 3.5 hours
- Excretion in urine
Adverse Effects
- Gastrointestinal disturbances
- Disturbances of the central nervous system
- Hypersensitivity reactions
- Joint pain
- Mild photosensitivity
- Transient increase in liver enzymes
- Risk of hypoglycemia and mental health adverse effects
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended during pregnancy due to the potential risk of arthropathy
- Not recommended for nursing mothers due to secretion in milk
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ciprofloxacin or other quinolones

- Keep below 30°C temperature
- Protected from light and moisture
- Keep out of the reach of children
Interaction
- Avoid concurrent administration with magnesium or aluminum containing antacids
- Avoid concurrent use with milk or dairy products
