Cipro-S 250 mg/5 ml (Powder for Suspension)

Indications

• Treatment of single infections or mixed infections caused by susceptible organisms
• Treatment of infections caused by organisms resistant to other antibiotics
• Treatment of urinary, respiratory, and gastrointestinal tract infections
• Treatment of gonorrhoea and septicaemia
• Treatment of skin and soft tissue infections
• Treatment of gastrointestinal, biliary tract, intra-abdominal, bone, joint, pelvic, eye, ear, nose, and throat infections

Pharmacology

• Synthetic quinolone anti-infective agent
• Broad spectrum of activity against gram-negative and gram-positive aerobic bacteria
• Inhibition of DNA gyrase enzyme for bacterial DNA synthesis

Dosage

• Dosage determined by severity of infection, causative organism, age, weight, and renal function
• Dosage range for adults: 100-750 mg twice daily
• Different dosages for different types of infections and patient populations
• Duration of treatment based on severity and clinical response

Administration

• Instructions for Ciprofloxacin IV infusion administration
• Steps for checking IV bag, inserting administration set, and regulating flow

Interaction

• Avoid concurrent use with Magnesium, Aluminum, Calcium, Iron, or Zinc-containing products
• Do not take with milk or dairy products to prevent reduced absorption

Contraindications

• Not recommended for patients with hypersensitivity to Ciprofloxacin or quinolones

Side Effects

• Common side effects include gastrointestinal disturbances and central nervous system disturbances
• Hypersensitivity reactions, joint pain, photosensitivity, liver enzyme increase reported
• Risk of hypoglycemia and mental health adverse effects

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Not recommended during pregnancy due to risk of arthropathy in immature animals
• Not recommended for nursing mothers due to secretion in milk

Precautions & Warnings

• Caution in patients with CNS disorders or predisposition to seizures
• Avoid concurrent use with certain antacids and dairy products

Use in Special Populations

• Effective in clinical trials but not first choice in pediatric population

Overdose Effects

• May lead to seizures, hallucinations, renal and hepatic impairment
