Description
- Synthetic quinolone anti-infective agent
- Broad spectrum of activity against gram negative aerobic bacteria
- Active against gram-positive aerobic bacteria including penicillinase producing
- Methicillin resistant staphylococci
- Bactericidal action results from interference with the enzyme DNA gyrase
- Rapid and well absorption from the gastrointestinal tract
- Widely distributed into body tissues and fluids
- Excretion in the urine within 24 hours as unchanged drug and biologically active metabolites
- Dosage range for adults: 100-750 mg twice daily
- Dosage adjustment in patients with renal impairment
- Dosage in cystic fibrosis: 750 mg twice daily
- Dosage for gonorrhea: Single dose of 250 or 500 mg
- Dosage for adolescents and children: 7.5-15 mg/kg/day
- Duration of treatment: 5 to 10 days for acute infections
- Storage condition: Below 30°C temperature, protected from light & moisture
