Indications
- Treatment of infections caused by susceptible organisms
- Treatment of infections resistant to other antibiotics
- Wide range of infections including respiratory, urinary, gastrointestinal, gonorrhea
- Suggested use in immune-suppressed patients and intensive care unit patients

Pharmacology
- Synthetic quinolone anti-infective agent
- Broad spectrum activity against gram negative and positive bacteria
- Bactericidal action from interference with DNA gyrase
- Rapid and well absorption from GI tract
- Widely distributed into body tissues and fluids
Dosage
- Dosage range for adults: 100-750 mg twice daily
- Specific dosage for urinary tract, respiratory tract, and gonorrhea infections
- Dosage adjustments for impaired renal function
- Duration of treatment based on severity of infection
- Different dosage and duration for specific infections
Administration
- Instruction for IV infusion

Interaction
- Avoid concurrent administration with certain antacids and other products containing certain minerals
- Avoid concurrent use with milk or dairy products
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ciprofloxacin or other quinolones

- Joint pain, photosensitivity, transient increase in liver enzymes
- Risk of hypoglycemia and mental health adverse effects
Pregnancy & Lactation
- No evidence of teratogenicity, impairment of fertility or peri/post natal development in reproduction studies
- Caution advised due to potential arthropathy in immature animals
- Not recommended during pregnancy and nursing
Precautions & Warnings
- Use with caution in patients with CNS disorders
- Can be taken with or without meals and to drink fluids liberally
- Avoid concurrent administration with certain antacids and products containing certain minerals
- Avoid concurrent use with milk or yogurt alone
Use in Special Populations
- Effective in clinical trials but not first choice in pediatric population
Overdose Effects
- Seizures, hallucinations, confusion
- Abdominal discomfort, renal and hepatic impairment
- Crystalluria, haematuria, reversible renal toxicity
