Dosage
- For Adults: 100-750 mg twice daily
- For Urinary Tract Infections: 250-500 mg twice daily
- For Respiratory Tract Infections: 250-500mg twice daily
- For Gonorrhea: Single dose of 250 or 500 mg
- For Pediatric Use: 7.5-15 mg/kg/day in two divided doses
Indications
- Treatment of single or mixed infections caused by susceptible organisms
- Resistant infections including Aminoglycosides, Penicillins, and Cephalosporins
- Infections in urinary, respiratory, and gastrointestinal tracts
- Gonorrhea, septicaemia, skin and soft tissue infections, and more
Mode of Action
- Interference with the enzyme DNA gyrase
- Bactericidal action
- Broad spectrum of activity against gram-negative and gram-positive aerobic bacteria
Administration
- Instruction for the use of Ciprofloxacin IV infusion
- Dosage adjustment in patients with impaired renal function
- Usage in adults, elderly, and caution in patients with suspected CNS disorders
Interaction
- Avoid concurrent administration with magnesium or aluminum containing antacids
- Avoid concurrent intake with milk or dairy products
- Interaction with products containing Calcium, Iron, or Zinc
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ciprofloxacin or other quinolones
Side Effects
- Gastrointestinal disturbances
- Central nervous system disturbances
- Hypersensitivity reactions
- Joint pain, mild photosensitivity
- Transient increase in liver enzymes
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended during pregnancy due to potential arthropathy in immature animals
- Not recommended for nursing mothers due to secretion in milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution in patients with suspected or known CNS disorders
- Avoid concurrent administration with antacids or products containing Calcium, Iron, or Zinc
- Caution in concurrent intake with milk or yogurt alone
Special Populations
- Effectiveness in clinical trials but not a first choice in pediatric population

- Seizures, hallucinations, confusion
- Abdominal discomfort
- Renal and hepatic impairment
- Reversible renal toxicity
