Indications
- Treatment of single or mixed infections caused by susceptible organisms
- Used for infections caused by organisms resistant to other antibiotics
- Treatment of urinary, respiratory, gastrointestinal, and gonorrhea infections
- Suitable for severe systemic, skin and soft tissue, bone and joint infections
- Indicated for infections of the eye, ear, nose, and throat
- Effective against infections of the biliary tract, intra-abdominal infections
Pharmacology
- A synthetic quinolone anti-infective agent
- Broad spectrum activity against gram-negative and gram-positive aerobic bacteria
- Bactericidal action through interference with DNA gyrase enzyme
- Rapid and well absorption from the gastrointestinal tract
- Widely distributed into body tissues and fluids
- Excretion in urine as unchanged drug and biologically active metabolites
Dosage
- Dosage range for adults: 100-750 mg twice daily depending on infection type

- Adjustment required for impaired renal function
