Description
- Ciprofloxacin is indicated for the treatment of various infections caused by susceptible organisms, with extensive tissue penetration and enhanced antibacterial activity.

Pharmacology
Ciprofloxacin is a synthetic quinolone anti-infective agent with broad spectrum of activity
ModeOfAction
The bactericidal action of Ciprofloxacin results from interference with the enzyme DNA gyrase needed for the synthesis of bacterial DNA
AdministrationInstructions
Instructions for the use of Ciprofloxacin IV infusion including checking for minute leaks, avoiding concurrent use with certain products, and regulating the rate of administration
InteractionPrecautions
Concurrent administration of Civox should be avoided with certain products and milk or yogurt alone, since absorption of Civox may be significantly reduced
Contraindications
Patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Ciprofloxacin or to other quinolones

- Transient increase in liver enzymes

PregnancyLactation
Use during pregnancy is not recommended due to the potential risk of arthropathy in immature animals, and administration to nursing mothers is not recommended
OverdoseEffects
Overdose following Civox administration may lead to seizures, hallucinations, confusion, abdominal discomfort, renal and hepatic impairment as well as crystalluria, haematuria, & reversible renal toxicity
PrecautionsWarnings
Should be used with caution in patients with suspected or known CNS disorders such as arteriosclerosis or epilepsy, and certain dietary precautions should also be observed
