Description
- Indicated for the treatment of single infection or mixed infections caused by susceptible organisms
- Effective against gram negative and gram positive aerobic bacteria
- Can be administered orally or via IV infusion
- Dosage range for adults: 100-750 mg twice daily
- Dosage adjustment for patients with impaired renal function
- Not recommended for pediatric population
- Full absorption from GI tract with widespread distribution in body tissues and fluids

Pharmacological action
- Synthetic quinolone anti-infective agent
- Inhibits the enzyme DNA gyrase for bacterial DNA synthesis

- Dosage adjustment for impaired renal function
Administration instructions
- Check solution for leaks or precipitates before administration
- Do not use flexible bags in series connections
- Regulate rate of administration with flow control clamp
Interaction recommendations
- Avoid concurrent use with magnesium or aluminum containing antacids
- Avoid concurrent use with dairy products or products containing calcium, iron, or zinc
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ciprofloxacin or other quinolones

- Joint pain, photosensitivity, increase in liver enzymes
- Risk of hypoglycemia & mental health adverse effects
Pregnancy and lactation
- Not recommended during pregnancy due to arthropathy in immature animals
- Not recommended for nursing mothers due to secretion in milk
Precautions and warnings
- Use with caution in patients with CNS disorders
- May be taken with or without meals and to drink fluids liberally
Special population use
- Not a drug of first choice in pediatric population

- May lead to seizures, hallucinations, confusion
- Potential renal and hepatic impairment
- Reversible renal toxicity
