Indications
- Treatment of single or mixed infections caused by susceptible organisms
- Infections resistant to other antibiotics
- Target infections in urinary, respiratory, gastrointestinal tracts
- Gonorrhea and septicaemia treatment
- Infections in immunosuppressed patients
Pharmacology
- Synthetic quinolone anti-infective agent
- Broad spectrum of activity
- Bactericidal action by interfering with DNA gyrase
- Rapid and well absorption
- Widely distributed into body tissues
- About 30-50% excretion in urine within 24 hours
Dosage
- Dosage range for adults: 100-750 mg twice daily
- Specific dosages for urinary, respiratory tract infections
- Single dose for gonorrhea
- Dosage adjustment for impaired renal function
- Duration of treatment based on severity and clinical response
Administration
- Instruction for IV infusion
- Checking for leaks and solution clarity
- Regulating rate of administration with flow control clamp
Interaction
- Avoid concurrent administration with certain antacids or dairy products
- Two hours interval for specific products
