Description
Proflox is indicated for the treatment of single infection or mixed infections caused by two or more susceptible organisms. It can also be used for infections caused by organisms resistant to other antibiotics including Aminoglycosides, Penicillins and Cephalosporins.
Dosage Range for Adults
- 100-750 mg twice daily
Usage
- Treatment of urinary, respiratory and gastrointestinal tract infections
- Treatment of gonorrhoea and septicaemia
- Treatment of skin and soft tissue infections
- Treatment of bone and joint infections
- Treatment of pelvic infections
- Treatment of eye, ear, nose, and throat infections
Pharmacology
- Synthetic quinolone anti-infective agent
- Active against most gram-negative aerobic bacteria
- Interference with the enzyme DNA gyrase
Distribution
- Widely distributed into body tissues and fluids
Half Life
- About 3.5 hours
Dosage For Lower and Upper Urinary Tract Infections
- 250-500 mg twice daily
Dosage For Respiratory Tract Infections
- 250-500 mg twice daily
Dosage For Gonorrhea
- A single dose of 250 or 500 mg
Treatment Duration
- 5 to 10 days for acute infections
Recommendation for Extended-release Tablet
- 1000 mg tablet once daily for three days in uncomplicated urinary tract infection
Avoided Concurrent Administration
- Magnesium or Aluminum-containing antacids
- Products containing Calcium, Iron or Zinc
- Milk or other dairy products
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ciprofloxacin or other quinolones

- Transient increase in liver enzymes
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Use during pregnancy not recommended

Precautions & Warnings
- Use with caution in patients with suspected or known CNS disorders
- Avoid concurrent administration with certain products
- Drink fluids liberally

- Not a first choice in pediatric population
