Pharmacology

  • Synthetic quinolone anti-infective agent
  • Broad spectrum of activity
  • Active against gram-negative aerobic bacteria

Contraindications

  • Transient increase in liver enzymes
  • Risk of hypoglycemia and mental health adverse effects

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • No evidence of teratogenicity, fertility impairment, or peri/post natal development impairment
  • Caution due to arthropathy in immature animals
  • Not recommended during pregnancy
  • Not recommended for nursing mothers

Precautions & Warnings

  • Use with caution in patients with suspected or known CNS disorders
  • Drinking fluids liberally
  • Avoiding concurrent administration with certain antacids and products
  • Reduced absorption of Quinox with milk or yogurt alone
  • Dietary calcium not significantly affecting absorption

Use in Special Populations

  • Effective in clinical trials but not a first-choice drug in pediatric population

Overdose Effects

  • Seizures
  • Hallucinations
  • Abdominal discomfort
  • Renal and hepatic impairment
  • Crystalluria
  • Haematuria
  • Reversible renal toxicity
