Description
- Raciprox is indicated for the treatment of single infection or mixed infections caused by two or more susceptible organisms
- Raciprox is active against most gram-negative aerobic bacteria including Enterobacteriaceae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa
- It is widely distributed into the body tissues and fluids
- Dosage depends on the severity and type of infection, the sensitivity of the causative organism(s) and the patient's age, weight, and renal function
- General dosage recommendations for adults are 100-750 mg twice daily, depending on the infection type and severity
- Ciprofloxacin has been shown to cause arthropathy in weight-bearing joints of immature animals, caution is advised in children and growing adolescents
- Should not be taken concurrently with magnesium/aluminum antacids or sucralfate, and should be avoided with dairy products
- Side effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances, central nervous system disturbances, hypersensitivity reactions, joint pain, mild photosensitivity, and transient increase in liver enzymes
- Use during pregnancy and lactation is not recommended, and caution is advised in patients with suspected or known CNS disorders or predisposition to seizures and convulsions
- Raciprox is not a drug of first choice in the pediatric population
- Overdose following Raciprox administration may lead to seizures, hallucinations, confusion, abdominal discomfort, renal and hepatic impairment, crystalluria, haematuria, and reversible renal toxicity
- Therapeutic Class: 4-Quinolone preparations, Anti-diarrhoeal Antimicrobial drugs
