Indications
- Treatment of single infection or mixed infections caused by susceptible organisms
- Treatment of infections caused by organisms resistant to other antibiotics

Pharmacology
- Synthetic quinolone anti-infective agent
- Broad spectrum activity against gram-negative and gram-positive aerobic bacteria
- Bactericidal action through interference with DNA gyrase
- Rapid and well absorption from the gastrointestinal tract
- Widely distributed into body tissues and fluids
- Excretion in urine within 24 hours
Dosage
- Dosage range for adults: 100-750 mg twice daily
- Specific dosage for urinary, respiratory, and gonorrhea infections
- Dosage adjustment for impaired renal function
- Different dosage for cystic fibrosis in adults
- No dosage adjustment needed for the elderly
Administration

Interaction
- Avoid concurrent administration with certain antacids and dairy products

Contraindications

- Secretion of Ciprofloxacin in milk, not recommended for nursing mothers
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution in patients with CNS disorders or factors predisposing to seizures
- Instructions for taking with or without meals and fluid intake
- Caution against concurrent administration with certain antacids and dairy products
Use in Special Populations
- Effective in clinical trials, but not first choice in pediatric population
Overdose Effects
- Seizures, hallucinations, confusion, abdominal discomfort
- Renal and hepatic impairment
- Crystalluria, haematuria, reversible renal toxicity
