Description

  • Treatment of single and mixed infections caused by susceptible organisms
  • Effective against organisms resistant to Aminoglycosides, Penicillins, and Cephalosporins
  • Treatment of infections in urinary, respiratory, gastrointestinal tracts, gonorrhea, septicaemia, skin, soft tissue, biliary tract, intra-abdominal, bone, joint, pelvic, eye, ear, nose, throat, and more

Dosage Range

  • 100-750 mg twice daily for adults
  • 250-500 mg twice daily for urinary tract infections
  • 250-500 mg twice daily for respiratory tract infections
  • 750 mg twice daily for known Streptococcus pneumonia infection
  • 500-750 mg twice daily for most other infections
  • 750 mg twice daily for cystic fibrosis pseudomonal infections
  • 7.5-15 mg/kg/day for children, administered in two divided doses
  • Varied dosage and duration for different types of infections

Pharmacology

  • Synthetic quinolone anti-infective agent
  • Broad spectrum of activity against gram-negative and gram-positive aerobic bacteria
  • Bactericidal action from interference with DNA gyrase enzyme

Administration Instructions

  • Check IV infusion bag for leaks and clarity
  • Avoid concurrent administration with certain antacids or dairy products
  • Regulate rate of IV infusion administration

Interaction

  • Avoid concurrent use with Magnesium or Aluminum containing antacids, sucralfate, Calcium, Iron, or Zinc products
  • Significant reduction in absorption with concurrent use of milk or dairy products

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to Ciprofloxacin or other quinolones

Precautions & Warnings

  • Use with caution in patients with CNS disorders
  • Avoid concurrent administration with specific antacids or dairy products

Special Populations

  • Not a first choice drug in pediatric population
