Indications
- Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis caused by specific bacteria
- Community-acquired pneumonia treatment for mild to moderate severity infections
- Effective against Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, etc.
Pharmacology
- Fluoroquinolone antibiotic
- Bactericidal with minimum bactericidal concentrations
- Inhibits DNA synthesis through inhibition of bacterial topoisomerases
- Widely distributed throughout the body
- Excreted in urine and feces as unchanged drug and metabolites
Dosage & Administration
- 320 mg once daily for 5 days for chronic bronchitis
- Different dosage regimens based on infection severity and bacterial strains
Interaction
- Absorption affected by certain antacids and iron salts
- No significant interactions with several common medications
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Gemifloxacin and other quinolones
- Avoid in patients with previous tendon damage from fluoroquinolones
- Not recommended for children under 18 years of age
