Indications
- Treatment of acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
- Treatment of community-acquired pneumonia (mild to moderate severity)
Pharmacology
- Bactericidal action
- Inhibition of DNA synthesis
- Rapid absorption after oral administration
- Distribution into target tissues and body fluids
- Excretion in urine and feces
- AUC values slightly higher in women than in men
Dosage & Administration
- 320 mg once daily for 5 days (bronchitis)
- 320 mg tablet daily for 5 or 7 days (pneumonia)
Interaction
- Reduced absorption with aluminum or magnesium-containing antacids
- No clinically significant interactions with omeprazole, theophylline, digoxin, warfarin, oral contraceptives
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Gemifloxacin and other quinolones
- Previous tendon damage with fluoroquinolones
- Not for use in children under 18 years

- Observation for QTc interval prolongation
- Caution in patients with epilepsy
