Indications
- Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
- Community-acquired pneumonia

Pharmacology
- Bactericidal
- Inhibits DNA synthesis
- Inhibition of bacterial type II topoisomerases
- Rapid absorption
- Widely distributed throughout the body
- Excretion in urine and feces
Dosage & Administration
- 320 mg once daily for 5 days for acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
- 320 mg once daily for 5-7 days for community-acquired pneumonia
Interaction
- Reduced absorption with aluminium or magnesium containing antacids
- Reduced absorption with iron salts
- No significant interactions with omeprazole, theophylline, digoxin, warfarin, oral contraceptives
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Gemifloxacin
- Previous tendon damage with fluoroquinolones
- Not for use in children under 18 years
