Dosage Forms

Adult Dosage

  • 500 mg once daily for 10-14 days
  • 750 mg once daily for 5 days
  • 750 mg once daily for 3 days (uncomplicated)
  • 750 mg once daily for 5 days (complicated)

Child Dosage

  • 10 mg/kg every 12 hours (6 months to <5 years)
  • 10 mg/kg every 24 hours (>5 years)

Pharmacology

  • Inhibition of bacterial topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase
  • DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination

Interaction

  • Avoid co-administration with multivalent cations
  • Reduced absorption with antacids, iron, and adsorbents
  • Increased risk of CNS stimulation with NSAIDs
  • Increased risk of bleeding with warfarin

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to levofloxacin
  • Hypersensitivity to quinolone antimicrobial agents
