Active Ingredient
- Levofloxacin
Indications
- Treatment of mild, moderate and severe infections caused by susceptible strains of designated micro-organisms
- Acute maxillary sinusitis
- Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
- Community-acquired pneumonia
- Uncomplicated & complicated urinary tract infections
- Acute pyelonephritis
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Enteric infections
Pharmacology
- Inhibits bacterial topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase
- Exerts antibacterial action by inhibiting enzymes required for DNA replication, transcription repair and recombination
- In vitro activity against a wide range of gram-negative and gram-positive microorganisms
Dosage
- 250 mg, 500 mg, 750 mg administered orally every 24 hours
- Oral solution to be taken 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating
- Intravenous infusion for adults and children

Interaction
- Avoid co-administration with any solution containing multivalent cations
- Reduced absorption with antacids, iron, and adsorbents
- Increased risk of CNS stimulation with NSAIDs
- Increased risk of bleeding with warfarin
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to levofloxacin or quinolone antimicrobial agents

Overdose Effects
- Low potential for acute toxicity
- Stomach should be emptied in the event of acute overdosage
