Dosage for Adult Conditions
- Acute sinusitis
- Exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
- Community-acquired pneumonia
- Uncomplicated urinary-tract infections
- Complicated urinary-tract infections
- Uncomplicated skin and soft-tissue infections
- Complicated skin and soft-tissue infections
- Enteric fever
- Diarrhea, cholera, shigellosis & enteritis
Dosage for Children
- 6 months to <5 years: 10 mg/kg every 12 hours
- >5 years: 10 mg/kg every 24 hours
Mode of Action
- Inhibits bacterial topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase
- Affects DNA replication, transcription repair, and recombination
Interaction Precautions
- No co-administration with solutions containing multivalent cations
- Reduced absorption with antacids, iron, and adsorbents
- Increased risk of CNS stimulation with NSAIDs
- Increased risk of bleeding with warfarin
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to levofloxacin or quinolone antimicrobial agents
