Description
Synthetic, broad-spectrum, third-generation fluoroquinolone derivative antibacterial agent for oral administration
Pharmacology
Exerts antibacterial action by inhibiting bacterial topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase
Dosage
- Usual dose of 250 mg or 500 mg or 750 mg administered orally every 24 hours
- Can be administered without regard to food
- Levofloxacin injection should only be administered by intravenous infusion
- Usual dose of 250 mg or 500 mg by slow infusion over 60 minutes every 24 hours or 750 mg by slow infusion over 90 minutes every 24 hours

Interaction
- No quinolone should be co-administered with any solution containing multivalent cations
- Antacids, Iron and Adsorbents reduce absorption of Leo
- NSAID may increase the risk of CNS stimulation
- Warfarin may increase the risk of bleeding
Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to levofloxacin, quinolone antimicrobial agents, or any other components of this product
Side Effects
- Risk of retinal detachment
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Abdominal pain
- Flatulence
- Rare occurrence of phototoxicity (0.1%)
- Rarely seen side-effects: tremors, depression, anxiety, confusion etc.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Not recommended for use during pregnancy or nursing
Precautions & Warnings
- Leo Injection should only be administered by slow intravenous infusion
- Adequate amount of water should be taken to avoid concentrated form of urine
- Dose adjustment should be exercised during Leo administration in presence of renal insufficiency
Overdose Effects
Exhibits a low potential for acute toxicity, stomach should be emptied, patients should be kept under observation, appropriate hydration should be maintained
