Indications
- Treatment of mild, moderate, and severe infections caused by susceptible strains of micro-organisms
- Acute maxillary sinusitis
- Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
- Community-acquired pneumonia
- Uncomplicated & complicated urinary tract infections
- Acute pyelonephritis
- Uncomplicated & complicated skin and soft tissue infections
- Enteric infections
Pharmacology
- Inhibits bacterial topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase
- Required for DNA replication, transcription repair, and recombination
- In vitro activity against a wide range of gram-negative and gram-positive microorganisms
Dosage
- Available in 250 mg, 500 mg, and 750 mg tablets
- Administered orally every 24 hours
- Oral solution to be taken 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating
- Injection for intravenous infusion
- Usual dose for adults and children
- Sequential therapy (intravenous to oral) may be instituted at the discretion of the physician
Administration
- Instructions for the use of Levofloxacin infusion
- Check for minute leaks and cloudiness in solution
- Do not use flexible containers in series connections
- Regulate rate of administration with flow control clamp
Interaction
- Avoid co-administration with multivalent cations
- Reduced absorption with antacids, iron, and adsorbents
- Increased risk of CNS stimulation with NSAIDs
- Increased risk of bleeding with warfarin
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to levofloxacin or quinolone antimicrobial agents

Precautions & Warnings
- Administer by slow intravenous infusion
- Adequate water intake to avoid concentrated urine
- Dose adjustment in renal insufficiency
Overdose Effects
- Exhibits low potential for acute toxicity
- Stomach should be emptied in case of overdosage
- Patient should be kept under observation
- Appropriate hydration should be maintained
