Indications

Description
Synthetic, broad-spectrum, third-generation fluoroquinolone derivative antibacterial agent for oral administration
Pharmacology
- Exerts antibacterial action by inhibiting bacterial topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase
- Has in vitro activity against a wide range of gram-negative and gram-positive microorganisms
Dosage
- Usual dose is 250 mg, 500 mg, or 750 mg administered orally every 24 hours
- Oral solution should be taken 1 hour before, or 2 hours after eating
- Injection should be administered by intravenous infusion
- Different dosage for sinusitis, exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, community-acquired pneumonia, urinary tract infections, skin and soft-tissue infections, and enteric infections
- Different dosage for children
Administration

Interaction
- Co-administration with multivalent cations should be avoided
- Antacids, iron, and adsorbents reduce absorption of Resquin
- NSAID may increase the risk of CNS stimulation
- Warfarin may increase the risk of bleeding
Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to levofloxacin or quinolone antimicrobial agents
Side Effects
- Risk of retinal detachment
- Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, flatulence
- Rare occurrence of phototoxicity
- Very rare side effects include tremors, depression, anxiety, confusion
Pregnancy & Lactation
Not recommended for use during pregnancy or nursing
Precautions & Warnings
- Resquin Injection should only be administered by slow intravenous infusion
- Adequate amount of water should be taken to avoid concentrated urine
- Dose adjustment should be exercised during administration in the presence of renal insufficiency
Overdose Effects
Low potential for acute toxicity, stomach should be emptied in case of acute overdosage
