Indications
- Treatment of mild, moderate and severe infections caused by susceptible strains of micro-organisms
Suitable Conditions for Use
- Acute maxillary sinusitis
- Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
- Community-acquired pneumonia
- Urinary tract infections
- Acute pyelonephritis
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Enteric infections
Dosage Forms

Dosage Administration
- 250 mg or 500 mg or 750 mg orally every 24 hours
- Oral solution to be taken 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating
- Injection administered by intravenous infusion
- Different doses for different conditions and age groups
Pharmacology
- Synthetic broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic
- Inhibits bacterial topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase
Interaction
- Avoid co-administration with solutions containing multivalent cations
- Reduced absorption when co-administered with antacids, iron, or adsorbents
- Possible increased risk with NSAIDs and warfarin
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to levofloxacin or quinolone antimicrobial agents
