Pharmacology
- Inhibition of bacterial topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase
- Activity against a wide range of microorganisms
- Broad-spectrum antibiotic
Dosage
- Forms available: 250 mg tablets, 500 mg tablets, 750 mg tablets
- Administered orally or by intravenous infusion
- Usual dosage for adults: 250-750 mg once daily
- Sequential therapy (intravenous to oral) may be instituted

Interaction
- Avoid co-administration with multivalent cations
- Reduction of absorption by antacids, iron, and adsorbents

- Hypersensitivity to levofloxacin or quinolone antimicrobial agents
Side Effects
- Risk of retinal detachment
- Common side effects: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, flatulence
- Rare occurrence of phototoxicity
- Very rare side effects: tremors, depression, anxiety, confusion
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended for use during pregnancy or nursing
