Indications
- Treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis
- Treatment of bacterial corneal ulcer
- Treatment of blepharitis
- Treatment of hordeolum
- Treatment of perioperative ocular infections
Pharmacology
- Sterile topical ophthalmic solution
- Broad spectrum third generation fluoroquinolone bactericidal antibiotic
- Inhibits bacterial topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase enzymes
Dosage & Administration
- 0.5% eye drop for adults and children 1 year of age and older
- 1-2 drops in the affected eye(s) every 2 hours while awake for days 1 and 2
- 1-2 drops in the affected eye(s) every 4 hours while awake for days 3 through 7
- 1.5% eye drops for adults and children 6 years of age and older
- Instill one to two drops in the affected eye(s) every 30 minutes to 2 hours for days 1 through 3
- Instill one to two drops in the affected eye(s) every 1 to 4 hours while awake from day 4 through treatment completion
Interaction
- No specific drug interaction studies conducted with Levomax eye drops
- Quinolone systemic administration may elevate plasma concentrations of theophylline
- Quinolone systemic administration may interfere with the metabolism of caffeine
- Quinolone systemic administration may enhance the effects of oral anticoagulant warfarin and its derivatives
Contraindications
- Patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Levofloxacin
- Patients with hypersensitivity to other quinolones
- Patients with hypersensitivity to any of the components of this medication

- Foreign body sensation
- Headache
- Transient ocular burning
- Ocular pain or discomfort
- Pharyngitis
- Photophobia
- Allergic reactions
- Lid edema
- Ocular dryness
- Ocular itching
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category C
- Use during pregnancy if potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus
- Caution when administered to a nursing mother
Precautions & Warnings
- Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi
- Discontinue and institute alternative therapy if superinfection occurs
