Indications

  • Treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis
  • Treatment of bacterial corneal ulcer
  • Treatment of blepharitis
  • Treatment of hordeolum
  • Treatment of perioperative ocular conditions

Pharmacology

  • Sterile topical ophthalmic solution
  • Broad spectrum third generation fluoroquinolone bactericidal antibiotic
  • Inhibits bacterial topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase enzymes

Dosage & Administration

  • 0.5% eye drop for adults and children 1 year and older
  • 1-2 drops every 2 hours for first 2 days, then every 4 hours for next 5 days
  • 1.5% eye drop for adults and children 6 years and older
  • 1-2 drops every 30 minutes to 2 hours for first 3 days, then every 1 to 4 hours

Interaction

  • Elevates plasma concentrations of theophylline
  • Interferes with the metabolism of caffeine
  • Enhances the effects of oral anticoagulants

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to levofloxacin or other quinolones
  • Hypersensitivity to any components of the medication
