Indications

  • Bacterial infections

  • Staphylococcus aureus-induced corneal ulcers

Pharmacology

  • Difluorinated quinolone derivative
  • Bacterial gyrase inhibitor
  • Effective against gram positive and gram negative bacteria
  • Low acute toxicity
  • Interferes with bacterial DNA processes
  • Inhibits bacterial enzyme gyrase
  • Forms stable complex with gyrase teramer A2B2
  • Rapid killing of sensitive bacteria

Dosage

  • Instill 2-3 times daily 1 drop into the lower conjunctival sac
  • Initial frequent application
  • Duration of treatment: 7 to 9 days

Administration

  • May be taken with or without food

Interaction

  • Avoid ophthalmic preparations containing heavy metals
  • Avoid bacteriostatic ophthalmic antibiotics

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to active ingredient
  • Hypersensitivity to excipients
  • Hypersensitivity to quinolones
  • Potential for secondary fungal infections
  • Potential for growth of non-susceptible bacteria
