Indications
- Bacterial infections

Pharmacology
- Bacterial gyrase inhibitor
- Effective against gram positive and gram negative bacteria
- Low acute toxicity
- Interferes with bacterial DNA processes
- Targets bacterial enzyme gyrase (topoisomerase II)
- Rapid killing of sensitive bacteria
- Cross-resistance with other quinolones
- No reported clinical studies for chlamydia
Dosage
- For adults and children (above 1 year of age)
- Instill 2-3 times daily 1 drop into the conjunctival sac
- Initial treatment application should be more frequent
- Duration of the treatment: 7 to 9 days
Administration
- May be taken with or without food
Interaction
- Avoid ophthalmic preparations containing heavy metals
- Avoid bacteriostatic ophthalmic antibiotics
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient
- Hypersensitivity to excipients or quinolones
- Enhanced risk of secondary fungal infections
- Support growth of non-susceptible bacteria
Side Effects
- Slight and transient burning
- Possibility of photosensitization
- Reported allergic reactions
- Possible allergic reactions after topical ophthalmic use
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Passes placenta barrier
- Excreted into maternal milk
- Clinical studies not available for use during human pregnancy or lactation

- Isolated cases of phototoxicity reported
- Avoid intensive exposure to sunlight or UV-radiation during treatment

- Practically no risk of adverse effects due to accidental oral ingestion
- Corresponds to 3.75% of the recommended oral daily dose for adults
