Indications

  • Bacterial infections
  • Conjunctivitis

Pharmacology

  • Bacterial gyrase inhibitor
  • Effective against gram positive and gram negative bacteria
  • Low acute toxicity
  • Interferes with bacterial DNA processes
  • Target molecule: A-subunit of bacterial enzyme gyrase
  • Rapid killing of sensitive bacteria

Dosage

  • For adults and children (above 1 year of age)
  • Instill 2-3 times daily 1 drop into the lower conjunctival sac
  • Initial treatment application should be more frequent
  • Duration of treatment: 7 to 9 days

Administration

May be taken with or without food

Interaction

Avoid ophthalmic preparations containing heavy metals

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to active ingredient
  • Hypersensitivity to excipients or quinolones
  • Long term treatment may enhance development of secondary fungal infections

  • Slight and transient burning immediately after instillation
  • Possible photosensitization
  • Allergic reactions
  • Hypersensitization

Use only when benefit outweighs potential risk for the fetus or infant

  • Isolated cases of phototoxicity reported
  • Avoid intensive exposure to sunlight or UV-radiation during treatment

Practically no risk of adverse effects due to accidental oral ingestion
