Indications
- Acute bacterial sinusitis
- Acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
- Community acquired pneumonia
- Uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections
- Complicated skin and skin structure infections
- Complicated intra-abdominal infections
- Pelvic inflammatory disease
Pharmacology
- 4th generation synthetic broad spectrum
- Fluoroquinolone class of antibacterial drug
- Activity against a wide range of gram-positive, gram-negative, anaerobic and atypical bacteria including Mycoplasma pneumoniae
- Inhibition of topoisomerase II (DNA gyrase) and topoisomerase IV
Dosage & Administration
- 400 mg once daily for different durations based on indication
Interaction
- Decreased absorption when administered with antacids, sucralfate, multivitamins, and multivalent cations
- Enhanced risk of convulsions with NSAIDs
- Enhanced risk of bleeding with warfarin
Contraindications
- History of hypersensitivity to Moxifloxacin or other quinolones

Pregnancy & Lactation

- Not recommended during pregnancy & lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Increased risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture
- Discontinuation if pain or inflammation in a tendon occurs
- Not for patients with known prolongation of the QT interval
- Not for patients with uncorrected hypokalemia
- Not for patients receiving Class IA or Class III antiarrhythmic agents
Use in Special Populations
- No dose adjustment for patients with renal or hepatic impairment
- Safety and effectiveness not established for pediatric patients and adolescent less than 18 years of age
