Indications
- acute bacterial sinusitis
- acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
- community acquired pneumonia
- uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections

- complicated intra-abdominal infections

Pharmacology
- 4th generation synthetic broad spectrum antibacterial drug
- fluoroquinolone class
- activity against gram-positive bacteria
- activity against gram-negative bacteria
- activity against anaerobic bacteria
- inhibition of topoisomerase II and IV
Dosage & Administration
- Acute bacterial sinusitis: 400 mg once daily for 7-10 days
- Acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis: 400 mg once daily for 5-10 days
- Community-acquired pneumonia: 400 mg once daily for 7-14 days
- Uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections: 400 mg once daily for 7 days
- Complicated skin and skin structure infections: 400 mg once daily for 7-21 days
- Complicated intra-abdominal infections: 400 mg once daily for 5-14 days
- Pelvic inflammatory disease: 400 mg once daily for 14 days
Interaction
Absorption decreased with antacids, sucralfate, multivitamins, and multivalent cations (e.g. iron or zinc). May enhance risk of convulsions with NSAIDs and bleeding with warfarin.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to Moxifloxacin or other quinolones

Pregnancy & Lactation
Not recommended during pregnancy and lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Increased risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture
- Discontinue if pain or inflammation in a tendon occurs
- Should not be used in patients with known prolongation of the QT interval
- Should not be used in patients with uncorrected hypokalemia
- Should not be used in patients receiving Class IA or Class III antiarrhythmic agents
Use in Special Populations
- No dose adjustment necessary for renal or hepatic impaired patients
- Safety and effectiveness not established in pediatric patients and adolescents
