Indications
- Treatment of acute bacterial sinusitis
- Treatment of acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
- Treatment of community acquired pneumonia
- Treatment of uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections
- Treatment of complicated skin and skin structure infections
- Treatment of complicated intra-abdominal infections
- Treatment of pelvic inflammatory disease
Pharmacology
- 4th generation synthetic broad spectrum
- Fluoroquinolone class of antibacterial drug
- Activity against gram-positive, gram-negative, anaerobic, and atypical bacteria
- Inhibits topoisomerase II (DNA gyrase) and topoisomerase IV
Dosage & Administration
- 400 mg once daily for acute bacterial sinusitis
- 400 mg once daily for acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
- 400 mg once daily for community-acquired pneumonia
- 400 mg once daily for uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections
- 400 mg once daily for complicated skin and skin structure infections
- 400 mg once daily for complicated intra-abdominal infections
- 400 mg once daily for pelvic inflammatory disease
Interaction
- Absorption decreased when administered with antacids, sucralfate, multivitamins, and multivalent cations
- Enhances the risk of convulsions with NSAIDs
- Enhances the risk of bleeding with warfarin
Contraindications
- Patients with history of hypersensitivity to Moxifloxacin or other quinolones

Pregnancy & Lactation
- US FDA pregnancy category C
- Not recommended during pregnancy & lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- May cause increased risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture
- Discontinue if pain or inflammation in a tendon occurs
- Not to be used in patients with known prolongation of the QT interval
- Not to be used in patients with uncorrected hypokalemia
- Not to be used in patients receiving Class IA or Class III antiarrhythmic agents
Use in Special Populations
- No dose adjustment necessary for patients with renal or hepatic impairment
- Safety and effectiveness not established in pediatric patients and adolescents
