Indications

Pharmacology

4th generation synthetic broad spectrum, fluoroquinolone antibacterial drug with activity against gram-positive, gram-negative, anaerobic and atypical bacteria.

Dosage & Administration

  • 400 mg once daily for different durations based on the specific condition treated

Interaction

Absorption decreased when administered with antacids, sucralfate, multivitamins, and multivalent cations.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Moxifloxacin or other quinolones.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Not recommended during pregnancy & lactation (US FDA pregnancy category C).

Precautions & Warnings

  • Increased risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture
  • Should not be used in patients with known prolongation of the QT interval
  • Avoid use in patients with uncorrected hypokalemia

Use in Special Populations

  • No dose adjustment necessary for renal or hepatic impaired patients
  • Not established in pediatric patients and adolescents under 18 years of age
