Indications

Treatment of acute bacterial sinusitis

Pharmacology

4th generation synthetic broad-spectrum antibacterial drug
Fluoroquinolone class of antibacterial drug
Activity against a wide range of gram-positive, gram-negative, anaerobic and atypical bacteria including Mycoplasma pneumoniae
Inhibits topoisomerase II (DNA gyrase) and topoisomerase IV

Dosage & Administration

400 mg once daily for various durations depending on the condition

Interaction

Decreased absorption when administered with antacids, sucralfate, multivitamins, and multivalent cations
Enhanced risk of convulsions with NSAIDs and bleeding with warfarin

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to Moxifloxacin or other quinolones

Precautions & Warnings

Increased risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture
Discontinue if pain or inflammation in a tendon occurs
Not for patients with known prolongation of the QT interval
Not for patients with uncorrected hypokalemia
Contraindicated with Class IA or Class III antiarrhythmic agents

Use in Special Populations

No dose adjustment for renal or hepatic impaired patients
Safety and effectiveness not established in pediatric patients and adolescent less than 18 years of age
