Eyemox 0.5% (Ophthalmic Solution)

Indications

• Treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis
• Effective for certain organisms
• Intraocular Antibiotic for Endophthalmitis prevention

Pharmacology

• Antimicrobial action by inhibition of topoisomerase II and IV
• Interferes with DNA replication, transcription, and repair in bacteria

Dosage & Administration

• Eye Drops: One drop in affected eye 3 times/day for 7 days
• Eye Ointment: Applied thinly and evenly to affected eye 3 times/day for 2 days, then 2 times/day for 5 days
• Intraocular injection: Administered prior to ocular surgery in a prescribed dose

Interaction

• No drug-drug interaction studies conducted
• Does not inhibit common cytochrome P450 isozymes

Contraindications

• Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Moxifloxacin or other quinolones

Side Effects

• Frequently reported ocular adverse events
• Nonocular adverse events reported at a rate of 1-4%

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Use during pregnancy justified if potential benefit outweighs potential risk
• Caution for nursing mothers due to presumed excretion in human milk

Precautions & Warnings

• Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms
• Examination with magnification recommended in certain cases
• Patients advised not to wear contact lenses with signs of bacterial conjunctivitis

• Store below 25°C
• Do not freeze
• Keep in a cool and dry place, protected from light
• Do not touch dropper tip to any surface
• Do not use after one month of first opening
