Indications
- Treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis caused by susceptible strains of specific organisms
Pharmacology
- Antimicrobial action resulting from inhibition of DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV
Dosage & Administration
- Eye Drops: One drop in the affected eye 3 times per day for 7 days
- Eye Ointment: Thin and even application to the affected eye as advised by a physician
- Intraocular injection: Recommended dose determined by the doctor
Interaction
- No drug-drug interaction studies conducted
- In vitro studies indicate no notable inhibition of specific cytochrome P450 isozymes
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Moxifloxacin or other quinolones
Side Effects
- Reported ocular adverse events include conjunctivitis, decreased visual acuity, and ocular discomfort
- Nonocular adverse events include fever, increased cough, rash, and rhinitis
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Use during pregnancy only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus
- Caution advised when administered to a nursing mother
Precautions & Warnings
- Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms, including fungi
- Patient examination with the aid of magnification recommended
- Patients advised not to wear contact lenses if experiencing bacterial conjunctivitis symptoms
